Charlie Kirk’s assassination sent shockwaves across the United States, unexpectedly drawing pop star Taylor Swift into the discussion.
The passing of the political activist stirred widespread debate, with many of his past remarks about Swift resurfacing. A controversial tweet in which Kirk criticized Swift’s political views has gained renewed attention following his death.
Kirk had targeted Swift in a sharp post back in 2018, also mocking her career.
“Hey @taylorswift13. You just endorsed a Democrat in the Tennessee senate race with a ridiculous statement saying Marsha Blackburn, a woman, is against women…” the tweet read.
“You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Your career has never recovered since Kanye ended it,” it added.
Charlie Kirk faced backlash from Swifties
Fans of Swift, known as Swifties, quickly reacted to the post. One wrote: “Did you read her post? She backed up her statement with facts. Based on her voting record, she IS voting against women. And you trying to tell a woman her opinion or how she should vote is exactly how we got here. Only weak and insecure men are threatened by strong women.”
Another commented: “Politics aside, KANYE ENDED @taylorswift13!? Do you know nothing about the music vertical at all? Taylor has been #1 for a decade now.”
Here’s what Swift said about Marsha Blackburn
Swift publicly criticized Marsha Blackburn during the 2018 Senate race, supporting her opponent and sparking debate.
In her 2020 documentary Miss Americana, Swift explained her reasoning:
“She gets to be the first female senator in Tennessee, and she’s Trump in a wig…She represents no female interests,” Swift said. According to the singer, Blackburn represented the kind of woman men would favor in a “horrendous 1950s world.”
Swift also highlighted Blackburn’s 2013 vote against modifying the Violence Against Women Act and her opposition to same-sex marriage.
“It’s really basic human rights, and it’s right and wrong at this point, and I can’t see another commercial and see her disguising these policies behind the words ‘Tennessee Christian values…’” she added.
Despite Kirk’s repeated insults toward Swift, the pop star has not publicly responded to his tweet.
