Conservative commentator Candace Owens has publicly distanced herself from former President Donald Trump, saying she feels “embarrassed” for supporting him during the 2024 election.
In an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Owens—once a vocal advocate for Trump—expressed deep regret for campaigning on his behalf.
“He’s been a chronic disappointment. And I feel embarrassed that I told people to vote for him because I said this wouldn’t happen—and it is happening,” she said, referring to recent foreign policy decisions made by the Trump administration.
Owens has long been a high-profile supporter of Trump, praising his policies during his first term and campaigning for his reelection. But her disillusionment appears to have intensified following Trump’s decision to launch airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend—an action she strongly condemned.
“This wasn’t Trump’s call,” Owens said. “This was [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s decision. We all know Israel is steering U.S. foreign policy right now, and it’s time for that to stop.”
Calling the situation “not an imminent threat to the U.S.,” Owens criticized the military action as unnecessary and inconsistent with the platform she once backed.
“I don’t know where we go from here,” she said. “But this is not the candidate I thought I voted for.”
Her criticism of Trump has grown in recent months. Earlier this year, she accused him of undermining free speech after he attacked Harvard University and pushed to block it from admitting international students.
“I don’t recognize this administration right now,” Owens said at the time.
She echoed those sentiments during a recent appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show, where she accused Trump of “betraying MAGA” by involving the U.S. in overseas conflicts.
Owens joins a growing list of former Trump loyalists voicing frustration over the direction of his second term.
