The daughter of a man who disappeared in 2022 says authorities have identified her father after his skull was discovered inside a storm sewer.
William Lee Campbell, 46, was last seen on the west side of Hamilton, Ohio, on Nov. 14, 2022, according to the Hamilton Police Department.
City officials said contractors inspecting the storm sewer system uncovered human remains on Aug. 27, 2025. Months later, investigators confirmed the remains belonged to Campbell.
Jasmine Campbell, William’s daughter, said a police detective informed her on Friday, Feb. 6, that the remains had been identified as her father. She said his skull was the only part recovered.
Before his disappearance, Jasmine recalled receiving a voicemail from her father.
“Jazz, this is your dad. Hey, when you get off work, will you call me back at this number?” the message said.
She said that was the last time she heard from him.
“When he wasn’t calling me, I knew something was wrong,” Jasmine said.
Although the identification brought some clarity, Jasmine said it did not provide the closure she had hoped for.
“I just have more questions wandering around in my head that I pray and hope we get answers to,” she said.
Jasmine is now urging investigators to conduct further searches of the sewer system and pursue additional testing.
“I will continue to pray for all of the families that have loved ones missing and pray for answers for them because I know how hard it is,” she said.
