A local family’s fishing outing turned into a recovery mission Wednesday after a father and his young son drowned in Hog Bayou. Authorities confirmed the deaths of 28-year-old Klo Moo and his 4-year-old son following an intensive multi-agency search operation.
The emergency began on the morning of Wednesday, March 18, when maintenance crews from the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) discovered two young children, ages 4 and 6, alone at the Hog Bayou boat ramp.
According to statements from the Texas Game Wardens (TGW), the surviving children reported that their family had been fishing the previous evening. The situation escalated when their 4-year-old brother fell into the water. Investigators say the father, Klo Moo, immediately dove in to rescue the child, but neither surfaced.
Multi-Agency Recovery Effort
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office alerted state authorities of the overdue family, triggering a large-scale search involving:
- Texas Game Wardens (Water-based search)
- Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) (Aerial surveillance)
- Texas General Land Office (Drone support)
- Hunter Hadley’s Quest, Inc. (HHQ) (Specialized recovery)
Search teams utilized thermal imaging technology and fixed-wing aircraft to scan the bayou and surrounding shoreline.

Investigative Outlook
The Texas Game Wardens are leading the investigation into the accidental drownings. While the swift current or underwater hazards of the bayou may have played a role, officials have not yet released a formal cause of death pending autopsy results.
The TGW issued a statement expressing condolences to the family and credited the GBRA for providing immediate care to the two surviving siblings found at the scene.
“Our thoughts remain with the victims’ loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the Texas Game Wardens stated in an official release.
The identities of the surviving children have been withheld to protect their privacy following the trauma.
