SAN DIEGO, CA — A prominent San Diego attorney and father of three has died following what authorities describe as a violent confrontation on Interstate 805. Barrick Lo, 48, was allegedly struck and killed by a motorist following a minor traffic collision on Feb. 12, an incident witnessed by two of his young children.

The suspect, identified as 57-year-old Lawrence Wynn, has been apprehended and currently faces several felony charges, including murder.

Escalation on Interstate 805

The tragic sequence of events began on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 12, as Lo was transporting his daughters, aged 7 and 9, from a fencing lesson. According to family spokesperson Peggy Mok, the family was traveling southbound on I-805 to meet Lo’s wife and 5-year-old son when another vehicle attempted to pass them, resulting in a minor “fender bender.”

Following standard protocol, Lo pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder to exchange insurance information. Witnesses and family friends state that when Lo approached the other vehicle to speak with the driver, the situation turned fatal.

“Barrick knocked on the glass. The other driver didn’t come out,” Mok told local ABC affiliate KGTV. Mok alleged that as the driver attempted to flee the scene, the vehicle surged forward, striking Lo. The force of the impact caused Lo to hit the pavement, sustaining critical head injuries.

Investigation and Arrest

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) launched an immediate investigation into the hit-and-run. After a multi-day search, investigators located the suspect vehicle, leading to the arrest of Lawrence Wynn.

Court records indicate a significant criminal history for the suspect:

  • Charges: Wynn has pleaded not guilty to murder and additional felony counts.
  • Prior Record: The complaint notes a previous felony conviction, though the specific nature of that crime has not been publicly detailed.
  • Current Status: Wynn remains in custody as the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office prepares its case.

Lo was rushed to a local trauma center following the incident but succumbed to his injuries two days later.

A Community in Mourning

The legal and local communities in San Diego have expressed profound shock over the loss of a man described as a “gentle spirit.” Lo was a practicing attorney known for his dedication to his clients and his family.

A GoFundMe campaign established to support Lo’s widow and three children describes him as a “true friend” whose “absence will be deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of working with him.”

“We want justice,” Mok stated, echoing the sentiments of a community grappling with a senseless act of highway violence.

The Road Ahead

The case now moves to the San Diego Superior Court. Legal experts suggest that the presence of Lo’s children as witnesses may play a pivotal role in the prosecution’s narrative regarding the intent and severity of the driver’s actions.

The CHP continues to urge anyone who may have captured dashcam footage of the southbound I-805 near the time of the incident to come forward. This tragedy highlights a disturbing trend in aggressive driving incidents across California, prompting renewed calls for increased highway patrols and public safety awareness.
