A routine food delivery led to a grisly discovery in a North Carolina neighborhood last week, resulting in a murder charge against a 23-year-old woman.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested Lhis Birito Costa on Wednesday, March 11, in connection with the death of Evelin Carolina Enamorado-Cisnado. The arrest followed a welfare check at a local residence triggered by an alert DoorDash driver.

A Gruesome Discovery

The investigation began on Tuesday, March 10, when a DoorDash delivery driver arrived at a home in Charlotte. According to court documents and statements from the victim’s family, the driver noticed a “foul odor” emanating from the destination.

Reports indicate that the driver was allegedly informed there was a deceased person inside the residence, though officials have not confirmed the identity of the individual who provided that information. Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers discovered Enamorado-Cisnado’s decomposing body. Investigators found the victim wrapped in blankets and towels, concealed inside a closet.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Motive and Arrest

Detectives quickly shifted their focus to Costa, who had a previous domestic relationship with the victim. Authorities apprehended Costa the day after the body was discovered.

According to prosecutors and court filings cited by local outlets WCNC and WSOC-TV, Costa allegedly confessed to the killing. The suspect reportedly told investigators she shot Enamorado-Cisnado after discovering the victim was involved in a new relationship.

Costa has been formally charged with murder. During a court appearance on Thursday, the legal status of her plea and legal representation remained unclear. A search of online court records has not yet yielded additional filings regarding her defense.

Family Seeks Repatriation to Honduras

In the wake of the tragedy, the victim’s family is mourning the loss of a woman they described as “harmless.” Enamorado-Cisnado’s aunt, Guadalupe Cisneros, expressed her grief in a social media post, condemning the violence that ended her niece’s life.

“A harmless girl who didn’t mess with anyone… it hurts so much in my heart,” Cisneros wrote. “How that [person] could take her life without mercy, just because my niece didn’t want to be with her anymore.”

The family has launched a public appeal for donations to assist with the costs of transporting Enamorado-Cisnado’s remains back to her native Honduras for burial.

Ongoing Investigation

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department continues to process evidence related to the homicide. While an arrest has been made, investigators are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Homicide Unit or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
