Dog in Shelter for 10 Years Gets Treated to a Luxury Hotel Vacation. The Stay Changes His Life Forever

After spending more than a decade in a shelter, a senior rescue dog named Thor has finally found the loving home he always deserved — all thanks to a luxury hotel getaway.

Thor, a mixed-breed dog rescued as a stray on the Spanish island of Ibiza, had been living at the Sa Coma animal shelter for over 10 years. Despite his friendly and affectionate nature, the now 12-year-old dog had never been adopted.

“Thor was found abandoned on the street when he was around two years old,” said Joanna Ramonell, director of marketing at Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay. “He had a microchip, but no one ever came for him.”

That all changed when the hotel launched a new dog-friendly initiative, the Tails of Talamanca program — a pampering experience for pets featuring gourmet meals, spa treatments, memory foam beds, and curated access to Ibiza’s most dog-welcoming spots.

To kick off the initiative, Ramonell partnered with Sa Coma and invited Thor and several other long-term shelter dogs to be the program’s first “VIP guests.”

“They dined from our in-room menu, lounged in the sun, and stole everyone’s hearts,” Ramonell said. “Thor was a true connoisseur — but what meant the most to him was the attention and affection. He got the full five-star experience.”

Photos of Thor enjoying his private terrace and gourmet meals quickly made their way to social media and television coverage, turning him into an unexpected star.

Soon after, Sa Coma was flooded with adoption inquiries. Within days, Thor was matched with his forever family — and today, he’s living a peaceful life in the Ibizan countryside, surrounded by nature, love, and three fellow dogs.

“After more than 10 years behind shelter gates, Thor is finally home,” Ramonell said. “And it all started with a little pampering and a whole lot of love.”Tools
