After an unproductive meeting with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Monday, Sept. 29, President Donald Trump posted a racist AI-generated video on his Truth Social platform. The clip depicted Jeffries in a fake sombrero and mustache, while Schumer’s voice was digitally altered to deliver insults targeting Democrats, immigrants, and others.
Jeffries, 55, responded on X, sharing a photo of himself and Schumer, 74, speaking earlier that day.
“Bigotry will get you nowhere,” he wrote, noting that he is the first Black person to lead a major party in either Congressional house.
“Cancel the Cuts. Lower the Cost. Save Healthcare. We are NOT backing down.”
According to NPR, major disagreements remained between Democrats and Republicans after the meeting, particularly on healthcare, with a potential government shutdown set to begin at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 1, if no deal is reached.
Trump’s latest AI video follows a previous clip he posted on Saturday, Sept. 27, which was later deleted. That video, reported by outlets including Forbes and CNN, falsely claimed that every American would receive “their own medbed card” as part of a new healthcare system.
The clip, shared by CNN’s Jake Tapper on Instagram, featured an AI-generated Fox News segment hosted by Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, and promoted a so-called “historic new healthcare system” tied to conspiracy theories.
“Every American will soon receive their own medbed card,” the AI-generated version of Trump said. “With it, you’ll have guaranteed access to our new hospitals led by the top doctors in the nation, equipped with the most advanced technology in the world.”
The video was removed from Trump’s Truth Social profile after about 12 hours. Fox News confirmed to The Verge that the segment never aired on any of its platforms.
