President Donald Trump issued a response Monday after Iran launched missiles at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar—one of the largest American military installations in the Middle East—following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend.

Why It Matters

Al Udeid Air Base, a key hub for U.S. operations in the region and the forward headquarters of U.S. Central Command, came under direct attack from Iran, marking one of the most serious escalations in the Israel-Iran conflict to date. The strike comes amid already high tensions in the Middle East, especially as violence continues in Gaza.

The U.S. had just launched unprecedented strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, drawing America deeper into the Israel-Iran confrontation. Iran’s response raises fears of a wider regional war and further U.S. involvement.

What to Know

Trump addressed the missile attack on Truth Social, calling Iran’s response “very weak” and saying it had been “very effectively countered.”

“Iran has officially responded to our obliteration of their nuclear facilities with a very weak response, which we expected,” Trump wrote. “We allowed one missile through because it posed no threat.”

A Pentagon official confirmed to Newsweek that Al Udeid was hit by ballistic missiles from Iran, though no U.S. casualties were reported.

According to Qatari defense officials, Iran launched 19 missiles, of which 18 were intercepted. One missile struck the base but caused no injuries.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian posted just before the attack:

“We neither initiated the war nor seek it. But we will not leave invasion to the great Iran without answer.”

Iran’s state media celebrated the strike, calling it a “mighty and successful response to America’s aggression.”

Meanwhile, Israel launched symbolic strikes in Tehran, hitting a notorious prison and security headquarters involved in cracking down on protests. Trump later floated the idea of regime change in Iran, asking:

“If the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that Trump was “simply raising a question,” though Iranian officials condemned the statement and warned of further retaliation.

What People Are Saying

President Donald Trump, on Truth Social:

“I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done… Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE.”

“I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost… Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.”

“I’d like to thank the Highly Respected Emir of Qatar… No Americans or Qataris were killed or injured. CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!”

Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari condemned the Iranian strike:

“Qatar condemns the attack that targeted Al Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard… Qatar’s air defenses successfully thwarted the attack.”

What Happens Next

President Trump spent Monday afternoon in the White House Situation Room with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, reviewing options and preparing for possible next steps.

With the conflict entering a dangerous new phase, further Iranian retaliation—or a U.S. response—could determine whether the crisis escalates into a broader war or opens the door to diplomacy.
