Eric Dane reflected warmly on Rebecca Gayheart in what would become his final recorded interview.
The actor, who died on Feb. 19 at age 53, filmed the conversation for Netflix’s Famous Last Words series approximately 10 months after publicly revealing his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The interview was released following his passing.
Speaking candidly about his relationship with Rebecca Gayheart, Dane described a bond that endured despite their separation.
“We still love each other deeply,” Dane said. “I just think we don’t want to live with each other. But there’s a lot of love there.”
Dane went on to emphasize the lasting impact Gayheart had on his life.
“I will never — by the time anybody sees this — have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca,” he said.
Calling Gayheart “the mother of my children,” Dane spoke with affection about their daughters, Billie and Georgia.

The actor also recalled their first meeting, describing it as “organic and fortuitous.” Dane revealed that when they initially met, Gayheart was engaged to another man.
“I told her friend I was going to marry that girl,” Dane shared. Though the friend expressed doubt at the time, Dane ultimately proved correct.
“Four years later, I married her,” said the Grey’s Anatomy alum.
Dane and Gayheart married in 2004 and were together for 14 years before Gayheart filed for divorce in February 2018. In March 2025, she moved to dismiss the petition.
Following Dane’s death, Gayheart acknowledged the overwhelming support from friends and fans.
“I’ve been so blown away by the outpouring of love and support from our community,” she wrote on Instagram Stories, expressing gratitude during what she described as an incredibly difficult time.
She also shared tribute posts featuring throwback photos of Dane with their daughters.

Dane publicly disclosed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025. After his passing, his family released a statement honoring his final days.
“He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world,” the statement read.
The family also highlighted Dane’s advocacy efforts.
“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.”
