Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk said she was “praying to God” that she was pregnant at the time her husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was shot and killed in September.

Kirk shared the emotional detail during an interview with Megyn Kelly on Friday at the final stop of Kelly’s tour in Glendale, Arizona. While the full conversation hasn’t been released yet, a preview clip was posted Sunday on The Megyn Kelly Show’s X account.

In the clip, Kelly referenced the couple’s two young children and asked Kirk how many kids they had hoped to have. Kirk replied that they wanted four, adding that she had been hoping she was pregnant when her husband was killed.

Kelly reacted with surprise and said she had wondered about the same possibility in a similar situation. Kirk, wiping away tears, said she had viewed it as something that might have brought comfort in the middle of tragedy. She added that the experience has made her encourage young couples not to delay starting a family, especially women who may be weighing career timing. According to Kirk, she and her husband had been eager to expand their family.

Kelly responded that she was grateful Kirk already has two children, a boy and a girl. She then noted that while the children are still very young, they will eventually understand who their father was and what his legacy means.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent right-wing activist, was shot and killed while speaking to students at Utah Valley University in Orem. Police arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson after he turned himself in, and he has been charged with Kirk’s murder.
