A federal immigration agent is under investigation following an incident in which a CBS reporter’s vehicle in Illinois was allegedly sprayed with a chemical substance outside an ICE facility.

Authorities in Broadview, Ill., have confirmed they are investigating the alleged attack on the vehicle on Sunday, Sept. 28, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, CBS, and FOX 32.

Reporter Asal Rezaei said she was driving her truck with the window down as she approached the ICE facility when her car was suddenly struck by chemical munitions, in an interview with CBS. Rezaei was reportedly at the location to observe any activity there.

As she attempted to turn her car around, Rezaei alleged that an ICE agent fired a pepper ball from behind a fence, approximately 50 feet away.

“The agent pointed his weapon and shot directly at my car; he saw my window was open,” Rezaei told CBS, noting the white powder that landed on the hood of her vehicle.

“A lot of it went inside my car and on my face. I immediately felt it burning. I started throwing up,” she added.

“The Broadview Police Department expects the full cooperation of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in our criminal investigation,” Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills said in a statement, according to the Chicago Sun-Times and FOX 32.
