Federal prosecutors are reportedly investigating whether senior figures in the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization misused donations that poured in during the 2020 protests, according to two sources familiar with the matter cited by Fox News.

The Associated Press first revealed that the Justice Department’s ongoing inquiry centers on how the BLM Global Network Foundation managed the surge of contributions following the death of George Floyd. In 2020, the organization reportedly received more than $90 million in donations.

Sources say the probe is being led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, based in Los Angeles. Investigators have already issued subpoenas and carried out at least one search warrant in recent weeks, as they explore whether BLM leaders or related entities improperly handled charitable funds.

The precise scope of the investigation remains uncertain, and as of now, no criminal charges have been filed. The Department of Justice declined to comment on the matter, and Fox News has reached out to representatives of Black Lives Matter for additional statements.

According to the Associated Press, the investigation began during the Biden administration but has since gained renewed focus under the Trump administration. The outlet also reported that the inquiry extends to other Black-led advocacy organizations that rose to prominence during the nationwide demonstrations of 2020.

In a statement to Fox News, the organization said, “Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation is not a target of any federal criminal investigation. We remain committed to full transparency, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of resources dedicated to building a better future for Black communities.”
