A former California postal worker admitted to stealing checks, debit cards, and credit cards from the mail for at least three years. On Monday, Aug. 11, she pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

Mary Ann Magdamit, 31, worked as a letter carrier at the Torrance Main Post Office. Prosecutors say she started stealing mail containing personal information, checks, and bank cards as early as 2022 and continued until July 2025. She then activated the stolen cards online to make purchases and sometimes sold them to others involved in the scheme.

Federal agents arrested Magdamit on July 1, and she has been in custody since.

According to prosecutors, Magdamit’s partners in crime used fake IDs to cash the stolen checks. Banks and credit unions lost money because of the scheme.

Investigators say Magdamit flaunted her stolen money by posting a picture of a thick stack of cash on social media. She allegedly used the money for expensive items, a Rolex watch, and vacations to Turks and Caicos and Aruba.

In December 2024, agents searched her home and found 133 stolen bank cards, 16 stolen Treasury checks, and a loaded ghost gun—a gun without a serial number that is often made from separate parts. When she was arrested in July 2025, agents found even more stolen cards in her apartment.

If convicted, Magdamit could face up to 30 years in federal prison. Sentencing is set for Oct. 27.
