A bride’s unexpected post-wedding confession has captured widespread attention online.

After Kayla Merkel-Greene, 28, and Scott Merkel-Greene, 30, exchanged vows on Nov. 15 at The Barn at Hart’s Grove in Windsor, Ohio, Kayla pulled her new husband aside to share a secret she had kept for months — one that had been hiding in plain sight.

Scott was completely taken aback.

Typically, last-minute confessions happen before a ceremony, not after. So when Kayla began explaining that she had done something surprising during her bachelorette trip to Geneva-on-the-Lake, Scott admitted he felt a flicker of nerves.

As the couple posed for portraits, wedding photographer Aisley Herndon encouraged the moment, laughingly asking Kayla if she wanted to share her surprise. The exchange, captured on video, would later go viral.

“I did this when I was on my bachelorette trip,” Kayla began, pausing for dramatic effect. “Okay, are you ready?”

She then pulled down her lower lip to reveal a tattoo inked on the inside — Scott’s childhood nickname, “Biscuits.”

Scott’s initial worry instantly turned into shock and delight. As guests erupted in cheers, he reacted with disbelief, stunned that he had never noticed it before.

“When I showed him, his jaw dropped,” Kayla recalls. “So many emotions crossed his face at once. It was amazing to see him genuinely surprised. Even now, he says he can’t believe he went so long without noticing it.”

Kayla says she felt nothing but excitement leading up to the reveal. She wasn’t nervous, confident that Scott would love it — and that they’d laugh about it together.

The idea took shape weeks before her bachelorette party, when Kayla shared her plan with her matron of honor, Katie. She initially considered tattooing Scott’s last name, “Greene,” but quickly realized she wanted something more personal — and funny.

“We love to make each other laugh,” Kayla says. “He knows I sometimes roll my eyes at that nickname, so I figured that made it even better.”

At The Lonesome Rose Tattoo Parlor, the shop buzzed with activity. Packed with clients, it felt like something out of a movie, Kayla recalls. When she explained her idea, the staff was thrilled — especially an apprentice who had just started and needed practice.

“It’s just the inner lip,” Kayla says. “It doesn’t have to be perfect. If it’s a little wonky, that gives it character. But honestly, he did a great job.”

Scott’s nickname dates back to middle school, when he and his friends embraced their goofy side. “Scotty Biscuits” stuck — and never left. Over the years, it’s become part of his identity, appearing as his Xbox gamer tag and even stitched onto a personalized baseball glove.

Kayla and Scott first met through mutual friends in high school, at ages 15 and 17. After nine months of Scott’s persistence, Kayla agreed to go out with him — and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

“He became my best friend,” Kayla says. “I just knew he was going to be part of my life forever.”

The couple’s love story reached another milestone earlier this year, when Scott proposed during the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, in Lorain, Ohio — a once-in-a-lifetime moment that perfectly matched their unforgettable journey together.
