Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is facing intense public scrutiny following a viral TikTok appearance in which the former convict used a lighthearted social media trend to reference the 2015 slaying of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
The video, uploaded Saturday, March 21, by influencer Natalie Reynolds, shows the 34-year-old participating in the “We listen and we don’t judge” challenge. During the segment, Blanchard addresses her eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence, concluding with a choking gesture and the words, “…my own mom.”
While Reynolds reacted with visible shock during the recording, the digital response has been overwhelmingly negative. Commenters quickly condemned the post, labeling the attempt at humor as “disturbing” and “disrespectful.”
“Nothing funny about this at all,” one user wrote, echoing a sentiment shared by thousands who questioned the ethics of trivializing a violent homicide for social media engagement.

Blanchard’s case gained international attention as a harrowing example of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. In 2016, she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for conspiring with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas “Nick” Godejohn, to kill her 48-year-old mother.
While Blanchard was released in December 2023 after serving her sentence, Godejohn remains incarcerated. In 2019, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 25 years for armed criminal action.

Since completing her parole in June 2025, Blanchard has attempted to rebrand herself as a family-focused influencer. She is currently a mother to a 14-month-old daughter, Aurora, with her partner Ken Urker.
In previous statements, Blanchard claimed to have moved past her history, stating that she had “taken accountability” and served her time. “I don’t owe the past anything more,” she wrote in a now-deleted post.
However, this latest social media stunt suggests a tonal shift that critics argue contradicts her previous claims of “healing” and “clarity.” As Blanchard continues to navigate life in the public eye, her ability to balance her tragic history with her current platform remains a point of significant contention.
