Human remains were located around 3 p.m. local time on Saturday, Nov. 15, during a family-organized search for Isaac Hunt, according to a news release from the Spirit Lake Tribe.
Law enforcement responded immediately to secure the scene and begin investigative procedures. The exact location has not been publicly released.
Tribal officials noted that there is currently no confirmed connection between the remains and any specific individual. Hunt’s family has requested privacy as they await official identification and findings.
Hunt has been missing since March 8, 2024, per details shared by North Dakota’s Office of the Attorney General. He was 28 years old when he disappeared.
He was last seen leaving his father’s home in St. Michael, according to Valley News Live, the Grand Forks Herald and Buffalo’s Fire.
In a statement shared with the tribe, Hunt’s aunt, Phyllis DuBois, acknowledged the emotional toll of the long search.
“We were nearing two years, and many times we felt alone in this search,” she said. “We are grateful for everyone who has stood with us, especially today.”
Spirit Lake Tribal Chairwoman Lonna Jackson-Street affirmed support for families with missing loved ones, saying, “We hold these families in our hearts every day. Their stories guide our work, and the Spirit Lake Tribe will continue supporting search efforts to ensure no one is forgotten.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is currently leading the investigation, according to the tribe.
