A woman says her husband brought an unexpected guest — his mother — to their anniversary trip, which led her to sleep in the guest room on their final night.
In a post on Reddit, the anonymous 32-year-old explained that she and her husband had planned a weekend getaway to celebrate their anniversary.
“We rarely get time alone because we both work full-time and have two little kids,” she wrote. “I was beyond excited: spa, wine tasting, nice dinners.”
But when they arrived at their rental house, his mom was already there.
“Apparently, he thought it would be a ‘nice surprise’ since she ‘never gets out much’ and could watch the kids while we ‘went out,'” she said. “Except… she came with us to the dinners, on the vineyard tour, and even slept in the room next to us.”
The woman continued: “I told him I felt like the entire trip was hijacked, and last night I ended up sleeping in the guest room because I was so upset.”

She added that her husband is now angry and claims she is being “ungrateful and dramatic since his mom ‘just wanted to spend time with us.'”
“Am I overreacting for being furious that my anniversary trip turned into a family vacation?” she asked at the end of her post.
Other Reddit users supported her frustration.
One commenter wrote: “This is a case where you are probably under-reacting. Respectfully, if your husband cannot understand your point of view, and thinks you are being ‘ungrateful and dramatic,’ then you might want to ask him to go into couples therapy with you.”
