Angelina Jolie is reportedly preparing to leave the United States as early as July 2026. The Mr. and Mrs. Smith star had previously delayed relocation plans until her youngest children, Vivienne and Knox, reach adulthood. While Jolie had long expressed a desire to move away from Los Angeles, legal constraints during her divorce from Brad Pitt prevented her from doing so. Although the divorce was finalized in December 2024, sources suggest the settlement was not the sole factor behind her decision.

Another contributing reason appears to be Jolie’s evolving perspective on the country. During an appearance at the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2024, Jolie reflected on what she fears most as an American artist. Describing the question as difficult, she explained that despite loving her country, she no longer felt she “recognized” it. Jolie emphasized her international upbringing and worldview, describing it as “equal, united, and international.” She warned that any society limiting personal expression or freedoms could be “very dangerous,” adding that the current global climate demands careful and thoughtful dialogue.

Her remarks sparked debate online, with some social media users criticizing her views. Commentators questioned the relevance of celebrity relocations, arguing that such decisions carry little significance for the broader public.

Jolie has previously voiced political opinions. In 2017, she publicly opposed Donald Trump’s immigration ban, stating that America’s strength lies in its diversity. As the mother of six children, including adopted children from multiple countries, Jolie argued that policies restricting refugees risked undermining values the nation historically championed. She maintained that supporting international humanitarian standards remained essential.

Privacy and lifestyle considerations may also play a role. In interviews with The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie spoke about seeking greater peace, safety, and privacy — qualities she suggested Los Angeles struggles to provide. She noted plans to spend time in Cambodia and visit family across the world. Reports indicate she has listed her Los Angeles residence for sale, a historic property purchased in 2017.

Jolie would not be alone among high-profile figures choosing to live abroad. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi relocated to England, while Rosie O’Donnell moved to Ireland, both citing personal and political motivations.

While Jolie has not formally confirmed the move, multiple reports indicate that preparations for an international transition are underway.
