Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau enjoyed a warm and relaxed evening together on Monday, July 28, dining at one of Montreal’s most celebrated restaurants — and the staff says it was nothing short of “fantastic.”
The 40-year-old pop icon and the 53-year-old former Canadian prime minister dined at Le Violon, a cozy and award-winning spot in the city’s Le Plateau neighborhood. A representative for the restaurant told PEOPLE the pair “seemed to have had a fantastic evening,” describing both Perry and Trudeau as “super kind and friendly to the staff.”
The duo even made a special visit to the kitchen after their meal to personally thank Chef Danny Smiles and the team. “It was an absolute pleasure to have them at the restaurant,” the rep added.
Le Violon, which opened last summer, has quickly become a top culinary destination, recently named Canada’s Best New Restaurant and earning a spot at No. 11 on Canada’s 100 Best list. It also holds a recommendation from the Michelin Guide.
Perry’s dinner with Trudeau came just one month after she confirmed her split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom. The pair, who had been in a nine-year on-and-off relationship, ended their engagement and are now focused on co-parenting their 4½-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove. In a joint statement, reps for the former couple said they were “shifting their relationship… to focus on co-parenting” and that their shared priority would always be raising their daughter “with love, stability, and mutual respect.”
Trudeau, too, has navigated a recent separation. In August 2023, he and Sophie Grégoire announced the end of their 18-year marriage. They share three children: Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11. At the time, Trudeau shared a heartfelt post on Instagram explaining that the decision came after “many meaningful and difficult conversations,” and emphasized their continued commitment to being a “close family” with “deep love and respect.”
Though neither Perry nor Trudeau has commented publicly on the nature of their dinner together, their Montreal evening certainly drew attention — blending fine dining with personal connection and plenty of curiosity.
