Former NFL star Jason Kelce came under fire on social media after sharing a patriotic Fourth of July message encouraging Americans to “set aside our differences” and unite in celebration of the country.

In a video posted to Instagram on Friday, the retired Philadelphia Eagles center showed fireworks bursting over the ocean, accompanied by a caption that read:

“Man I love the 4th! One of the great days we all can set aside our differences in this country, and enjoy the one thing we all share in common. That we are American! Cheers to you, oh beautiful America.”

While Kelce’s message received support from many—including a like from his brother, NFL star Travis Kelce—it also sparked backlash from followers who felt the post ignored the realities of inequality and division in today’s America.

“I love you, bro, but your privilege is showing,” one commenter wrote. “You can set things aside, but not everyone has that luxury.”

Another user added, “I really do love you Jason but no, we actually can’t just set aside our differences… What this country is becoming is not something I’m proud of.”

Critics described Kelce’s message as “tone deaf,” given ongoing concerns over civil rights, political polarization, and social justice.

“Dude, no. This caption is so beyond tone deaf and insulting. People are suffering. People will die because of what’s happening. Human rights are being lost. Do better,” wrote one user.

Another comment read: “You have an incredibly large platform… use it to highlight the injustices and human rights violations currently happening in this country. Show your daughters how to speak up for the underprivileged.”

Despite the backlash, Kelce has long been known for keeping politics at arm’s length. In 2024, he remarked on the New Heights podcast that he would gladly visit the White House as a Super Bowl champion—regardless of who holds the presidency.

“It’s always an honor to go to the White House,” he said. “I’m doing it every time, no matter who’s up there at the helm.”

As of now, Kelce has not responded to the criticism. A representative for him declined to comment when contacted by Page Six.
