Vice President JD Vance confirmed Saturday that the Trump administration is actively working to declassify top-secret government files regarding Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), while offering a startling personal assessment: he believes the objects are “demons” rather than extraterrestrial life.
In a March 28 interview with commentator Benny Johnson, the 41-year-old Vice President described a long-standing “obsession” with the phenomena. Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, framed the mystery through a theological lens, suggesting that what the public perceives as “aliens” may actually be malevolent spiritual entities.
A Supernatural Perspective on National Security
“I don’t think they’re aliens,” Vance stated during the discussion. “I think they’re demons… every great world religion, including Christianity, has understood that there are weird things out there and there are things that are very difficult to explain.”
Vance argued that the modern desire to categorize “extra-natural phenomenon” as biological aliens ignores traditional spiritual understandings of good and evil. He cited the “Christian understanding” of celestial beings, suggesting that a primary deception of the “devil” is convincing humanity of his non-existence.

The Push for Transparency
The Vice President’s remarks follow a February 19 directive from President Donald Trump, who vowed to release all government records related to “alien and extraterrestrial life” and UAPs. Vance assured the public that the administration is currently processing these files for public consumption.
“I will get to the bottom of the UFO files,” Vance vowed. “I’ve got three years of the very tippy top of the classification. I’m going to get to the bottom of it.”
Despite his stated obsession, Vance admitted he has not yet visited classified sites such as Area 51 or facilities in New Mexico, citing scheduling conflicts during his first months in office. However, he emphasized that national security and the economy remain the administration’s primary focus while the declassification process moves forward.

Context of the Disclosure Movement
The administration’s aggressive stance on disclosure marks a significant shift in federal policy. This movement follows a period of heightened public interest and recent comments from former President Barack Obama, who initially stated that “aliens are real” before clarifying that he saw no evidence of extraterrestrial contact during his presidency.
As the Trump administration nears the end of its first quarter in 2026, the promised release of these “highly complex” files remains one of the most anticipated—and unconventional—transparency initiatives in modern U.S. history.
