Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez faced plenty of backlash during their over-the-top wedding weekend in Venice — but according to a new report, one A-lister’s jab hit especially hard.

Celebrity columnist Rob Shuter reported on June 30 that the Amazon billionaire and his new wife were particularly enraged by comments made by actress Charlize Theron. Bezos was allegedly “fuming” when he heard what Theron had said, while Sánchez was so upset she had to be “talked down” from publicly clapping back at the South African star on Instagram.

Shuter claims the newlyweds have since blacklisted Theron from all future events, including upcoming Blue Origin launches and any charity galas sponsored by the couple. However, sources close to Theron reportedly say she couldn’t care less.

The incident began during the fifth annual Block Party for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project on June 28. While addressing the crowd, Theron quipped, “I think we might be the only people who didn’t get an invite to the Bezos wedding.” Then she added, “But that’s OK — they suck, and we’re cool,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Theron used her platform to draw attention to global injustices, contrasting her advocacy work with the excesses of Bezos and Sánchez’s celebration — which drew protests in Venice and criticism for its opulence. “Immigration policy is destroying families, not criminals. Women’s rights are eroding. Queer and trans people are being erased. Gender-based violence is on the rise,” she said.

She wasn’t alone in her disapproval. Journalist Katie Couric reportedly mocked Sánchez’s wedding gown in a now-deleted Instagram comment: “Welcome to the eighties — when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled. Apparently tacky is back.”

Rosie O’Donnell also blasted the event in a Substack post, writing, “The BEZOS wedding turned my stomach. All those billionaires bathing in excess. Is Oprah really friends with Jeff Bezos? How? The man treats his employees like trash.”

Meanwhile, some celebrities chose to uplift Bezos’ ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, praising her philanthropic efforts in the years following their high-profile divorce. Among them were Mia Farrow and Olivia Munn, who commended Scott’s focus on giving rather than flaunting wealth.

As of now, Bezos and Sánchez have not responded publicly to the criticism surrounding their wedding.
