Actor Jeff Daniels didn’t hold back in a new interview on MSNBC’s The Best People podcast, hosted by Nicolle Wallace. The Emmy-winning star voiced frustration with Donald Trump supporters and said he hopes they’re feeling financial pain after backing Trump’s return to the White House.
“I hope you’re losing tons of money, those of you who thought this would be OK,” Daniels said bluntly. “My question is, what are you guys going to do about it?”
Wallace pointed out that Trump’s tariffs are already hitting his base hard, saying they’ll hurt “your neighbors” most. Daniels agreed, arguing that real-life costs will eventually hit home: “I think, at the end of the day, that’s what’s going to do it. ‘Wait a minute, the grocery bill is what? $180 more? I can’t get that car that we have to have unless I pay another $8,000. What? Who do I blame for that? Who do I see about that?’ One person.”
Daniels mocked Trump’s promises to cut consumer prices, calling him a “snake oil salesman.” He said many Americans will eventually realize they’ve been misled — especially when everyday costs continue to climb.
A vocal critic of Trump, Daniels endorsed Kamala Harris in last year’s election. He says Trump’s presidency has eroded American values.
“We’ve lost decency, we’ve lost civility, we’ve lost respect for the rule of law — lost it,” Daniels said. “We’ve normalized verbal abuse on the internet. We’ve normalized bullying… Ideally, we’re supposed to elect the best of us. Not the worst of us. He’s everything that’s wrong with not just America, but with being a human being.”
Daniels recently starred in American Rust and A Man in Full. He’s also set to play Ronald Reagan in the upcoming political drama Reykjavik, opposite Jared Harris as Mikhail Gorbachev in a retelling of the historic 1986 summit.
