Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have broken their silence following the arrest of their son, Joseph Duggar, who faces severe felony charges in Florida and additional criminal counts in Arkansas.

Through a family spokesperson on Monday, the former TLC stars described themselves as “heartbroken” over the legal crisis. The statement comes as Joseph, 31, remains at the center of an investigation involving the alleged repeated molestation of a nine-year-old girl.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida arrested Joseph Duggar on March 18. Authorities charged the former reality television personality with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 and lewd and lascivious behavior.

According to a sworn affidavit filed by investigators, Duggar allegedly confessed to the crimes during a recorded telephone conversation involving the victim’s father and a local detective. While Joseph was recently released from Arkansas custody on March 27, he is expected to be transferred to Florida to face these felony allegations.

The legal scrutiny extends into Arkansas, where both Joseph and his wife, Kendra Duggar, 27, face multiple criminal charges. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has charged the couple with:

  • Four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor (second degree).
  • Four counts of false imprisonment (second degree).

A family representative clarified that Kendra’s charges are “totally unrelated” to the felony molestation case in Florida, noting she is not suspected of participation in the alleged Florida crimes. Kendra is currently out on bail, and both are scheduled for an Arkansas court appearance on April 29.

“Right now, [Jim Bob and Michelle] are focused on loving their family and helping Kendra and her children during this difficult time,” the spokesperson stated. The couple, who rose to fame on 19 Kids and Counting, requested privacy while claiming they are “praying for the victim.”

This latest legal scandal marks another dark chapter for the Duggar family. Joseph’s older brother, Josh Duggar, is currently serving a 12-year federal prison sentence following a 2021 conviction for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Joseph Duggar was a fixture on the family’s reality franchise for over a decade, appearing on both the original series and its spin-off, Counting On. He has been married to Kendra since 2017; the couple shares four children.

As the investigation continues, authorities have not indicated if further charges are forthcoming in either jurisdiction.
