Jinger Duggar Vuolo is explaining why she hasn’t spent Christmas Day at the Duggar family home in almost a decade — and why she and husband Jeremy Vuolo are changing that this year.

On The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, the 32-year-old said the couple hasn’t returned to the Duggar house for Christmas since they married in 2016.

“We have not been back to the Duggar house since we’ve been married, in nine years, for Christmas, and we’re going this year,” Jeremy, 38, said. Jinger added, “It’s exciting.”

Jinger explained that Christmas Day has typically been reserved for Jeremy’s side of the family because it’s the one time each year they’re all in the same place.

“It’s the only time of year” his family is “all together,” she said, noting that over the years they agreed, “Okay, that’s going to be the time that we spend with the Vuolo family.”

By contrast, she said her own family gathers frequently, making it easier to visit at other times.

“The Duggar family… is always together a lot,” Jinger said. “It’s easy for us just to pop back.” She recalled one year when she visited three separate times for weddings. “So you’re like, ‘Oh, we weren’t there for the holidays,’ but we were there for multiple weddings.”

This year, though, the couple decided to switch things up so their children can experience what Jinger described as a true “Duggar family Christmas.” The pair share daughters Felicity and Evangeline, as well as son Finnegan Charles, born in March 2025.

“I miss it, so that’s also why,” she added.

During the episode, Jeremy also asked Jinger what Christmas morning looked like growing up with parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and her many siblings.

“We’ve done different kinds of things,” she said. Some years, everyone waited and went downstairs together — and then it turned into “a free-for-all,” with gifts opened all at once in what she described as “chaos.”

Other years were more structured. “I feel like it varied,” she said, explaining that sometimes “each person would open [their presents]” one at a time.

For this year’s celebration, Jinger said the family will be doing a gift exchange. She shared that she drew her sister Jana, while Jeremy said he’s shopping for Jim Bob.

“Mr. Duggar, I’m buying for pops,” Jeremy said, as Jinger jokingly suggested practical gifts like “a nice pair of white T-shirts or socks, or a new package of underwear.”

Jinger has also acknowledged that visits home feel different now. She previously described a recent trip as “amazing,” but also overwhelming — especially as some siblings have moved away and everyone wants time together when she returns.

“I love going back to visit and at the same time it’s overwhelming,” she said. “When you live away from family and then you come back then everybody wants to see you… It can be so tough to juggle all of that because when you have so many siblings and their families.”
