Ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid accused President Donald Trump on Wednesday of wanting to deport “Brown people” only to use them as “perfect nearly slave labor.”
Reid’s remarks came in response to comments Trump made on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” which she discussed on her podcast, “The Joy Reid Show.”
“I want you to hear what Donald Trump said this week about the Brown workers his administration is deporting and detaining,” she said.
During the podcast, Reid played a clip of Trump stating, “We’re taking care of our farmers. We can’t let our farmers not have anybody, you know, these are very, these people that, they’re, you can’t replace them very easily.”
Trump also commented on city dwellers and farm work.
“You know, people that live in the inner city are not doing that work,” he said. “They’re just not doing that work. And they’ve tried. We’ve tried. Everybody tried. They don’t do it. These people do it naturally, naturally. I said … ‘What happens if they get a bad back?’ He said, ‘They don’t get a bad back, sir, because if they get a bad back, they die.’ I said, ‘That’s interesting, isn’t it?'”
The president has proposed a “temporary pass” aimed at protecting workers in farming and hospitality industries from harsh ICE enforcement.
Reid challenged Trump’s remarks, suggesting he views these immigrants mainly as a source of manual labor.
“Black people are just not doing the work, they’re just not in the fields anymore … coming into the field doesn’t come naturally to them anymore. Okay,” Reid said, seemingly mocking the president.
She continued, “So, just to be clear, if you are a MAGA voter who supported Trump to see millions of non-white migrants deported, he just told you the violent, militarized, masked ICE raids led by him and allies like Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, and Tom Homan are temporary. He plans to bring those deportees back somehow because they make perfect nearly slave labor. They never complain. They don’t get a bad back.”
White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson responded to Reid’s comments in an interview with Fox News Digital.
“There’s a reason Joy Reid’s show got canceled — her takes were too dumb even for ‘MSDNC,’” Jackson said. “President Trump is committed to ensuring American businesses have the legal workforce needed to succeed and that workers receive fair compensation and adequate protections. Illegal employment exposes workers to trafficking, exploitation, and other dangers. It’s Joy Reid and the Democrat Party who are out of touch, claiming they need illegal aliens for cheap labor that they won’t do themselves. Their policies support labor trafficking and exploitation, as seen in a recent ICE raid at a marijuana facility rescuing 14 children from potential labor exploitation.”
