Far-right activist Laura Loomer launched a blistering attack on Turning Point USA (TPUSA) leadership Friday, following reports that former National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) Director Joe Kent is willing to testify in the trial of Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin.
The controversy centers on Kent’s potential involvement in the defense of Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with the September 2025 sniper assassination of Kirk at Utah Valley University. Kent, who resigned from the NCTC earlier this month in protest of the ongoing U.S. war with Iran, has reportedly suggested that the Kirk case may involve broader complexities than the current prosecution alleges.
A Movement Divided
Writing on X, Loomer accused TPUSA—now led by Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk—of failing to protect the organization from internal subversion. Loomer claimed the staff is “finally being forced to face reality” after platforming individuals she describes as “Islamic-sympathizing grifters.”
“We will never get true justice for Charlie Kirk… as long as people who claim to be friends with Charlie Kirk refuse to expose the people who are truly responsible for injecting this fringe kookery into the MAGA movement,” Loomer stated.
The rift highlights a growing schism within the Republican base. While prosecutors allege Robinson acted as a lone gunman, figures such as Candace Owens have amplified theories regarding foreign intelligence involvement. Kent’s willingness to testify has catalyzed these claims, sparking what TPUSA host Blake Neff described as a sense of “betrayal” among Kirk’s closest allies.
Allegations of Institutional Failure
Loomer specifically targeted Neff and other TPUSA figures for their past associations with Tucker Carlson, whom she accused of “pushing this exact same garbage.” She argued that TPUSA’s historical willingness to provide a platform to conspiracy-minded commentators paved the way for the current crisis.
The internal strife comes at a precarious time for the organization. Under Erika Kirk’s leadership, TPUSA has attempted to maintain its influence while navigating the fallout of its founder’s death and the complexities of the Iran conflict.
The Trial Ahead
Tyler Robinson faces the death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder. Prosecutors maintain that DNA evidence and a confession note found by Robinson’s roommate solidify their case. However, Kent’s potential testimony threatens to transform a criminal trial into a high-stakes political referendum on national security and foreign influence.
Reaction to Loomer’s broadside remains polarized. Supporters praised her for “exposing the rot,” while critics, including some within the MAGA movement, defended Kent as a “principled” whistleblower speaking truth to power.
