A California couple died after a car crash while returning home from church with their daughter, authorities said.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road in Santa Clarita at about 11:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, according to reports from local outlets. Two people — identified by loved ones as Genry and Patty Ortiz — were killed.

The couple had been riding with their daughter, Erin, when the crash happened, according to a GoFundMe created to support the family. Erin, 25, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, her brother David Ortiz told a local station.

David said Erin called him after the crash, distraught and describing the scene. He said she remains hospitalized, in significant pain, unable to move easily, and wearing a neck brace as she faces multiple surgeries.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said a suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and manslaughter in connection with the crash, according to multiple local reports. Investigators also said the driver had a valid California driver’s license and no prior traffic record.

Genry and Patty Ortiz are being remembered by loved ones as devoted to their family, faith and community. In a message shared on the GoFundMe page, they were described as deeply involved in their church and always willing to help others.

In a separate interview with a local outlet, David said the family is struggling to process the loss but is leaning on their faith.

The GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $106,000. Organizers said donations will help cover Erin’s medical bills, surgeries and rehabilitation, along with immediate living expenses for Erin and David and longer-term support for both siblings.
