A drastic haircut has left one man navigating a tense situation with his girlfriend, who is reportedly short-tempered about her new look.

In a post to Reddit’s AITA (Am I the A——) forum, a 26-year-old man shared that he’s in hot water with his 25-year-old girlfriend after she donated her long hair to charity and expected him to cover the cost of her subsequent salon makeover.

According to the poster, his girlfriend “has been growing her hair out for years” before she “chopped off over 12 inches and donated it to a charity that makes wigs for kids with cancer.”

“She always said she wanted to donate it, and I thought that was a great idea. I even told her it was really sweet of her to do that,” he wrote.

However, the situation shifted once she made the big cut.

“She says she feels ugly, she misses her long hair, and she’s been super upset about it,” the Redditor shared.

In an effort to remedy the situation, his girlfriend booked a salon visit for services like “layers, color, [and] extensions” and “then she sent me the bill—over $500—expecting me to cover it.”

She apparently didn’t see a problem with asking him to pay, since he was the one who “encouraged her to do it,” he explained.

“I told her that while I think what she did was amazing, I never told her to donate her hair. That was her decision, and I don’t think it’s fair to expect me to pay for her to ‘fix’ it now. She got really upset and said I was being unsupportive and selfish, and now she’s barely speaking to me,” he concluded, asking if he was indeed the a—— in the situation.

Nearly all responses sided with the Redditor.

“NTA [Not the a——]. She wants you to be financially accountable for a decision she made? No,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “She’s an adult. She made a decision. She should know the consequences of her decision fall on her. Do NOT pay for these hair extensions. NTA.”

As the discussion continued, some people described her behavior as “highly manipulative,” while others cautioned the poster to think carefully about committing to that relationship long-term.
