Police in Georgia are investigating email threats that allegedly targeted Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and her family.
The Rome Police Department said in a statement that it was “in receipt of (2) email assassination threats toward MTG and her family.”
“These went to junk mail and were only released through our IT system within the past few minutes. We are forwarding to the appropriate units for investigation,” the department’s community information specialist Kelly Madden said.
The development comes shortly after President Donald Trump publicly downplayed threats Greene had raised, saying on Sunday, “I don’t think her life is in danger.”
Why It Matters
Greene has long been a prominent backer of Trump and a key figure in his MAGA movement. Recently, however, the two have split over several high-profile issues, including the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related files and the federal government shutdown.
Trump has since withdrawn his endorsement of Greene and wrote on Truth Social on Sunday: “Wacky Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown (Remember, Green turns to Brown where there is ROT involved!) is working overtime to portray herself as a victim when, in actuality, she is the cause of all of her own problems. The fact is, nobody cares about this Traitor to our Country!”
When asked about Greene’s suggestion that her life was in danger, Trump added on Sunday: “I don’t think her life is in danger. Frankly, I don’t think anybody cares about her.” Newsweek has contacted the White House via email for comment.
What To Know
Greene said on Sunday that her construction company’s office building received a pipe bomb threat amid her public feud with Trump.
“The hoax pizza deliveries have started now, to my house and my family members,” Greene wrote on X on Sunday. “Update: we also received a pipe bomb threat on my construction companies office building.”
Conservative commentator Laura Loomer later wrote on X: “I spoke with law enforcement officials at the police department in Rome, Georgia. They told me they never received a report today of a bomb threat at the business or residence of Marjorie Traitor Greene.”
Greene’s construction firm, Taylor Commercial Inc, is based in Alpharetta, Georgia, according to the construction management directory Procore Network. Newsweek has contacted the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety for comment via email and phone.
Rome Police Department had initially told Newsweek that “none of the incidents were within the jurisdiction of the Rome Police Department.”
“Other than an unordered pizza delivery to her home, we are under the impression that all other incidents have occurred elsewhere,” Madden said.
What People Are Saying
Greene expanded on her concerns in a lengthy post on X:
“The hoax pizza deliveries have started now, to my house and my family members. Update: we also received a pipe bomb threat on my construction companies office building. President Trump’s unwarranted and vicious attacks against me were a dog whistle to dangerous radicals that could lead to serious attacks on me and my family. Unfortunately, I’ve been down this road before. As a matter of fact, as I campaigned all over the country and defended President Trump, I received dozens of swatting calls on my house and my family members homes along with these hoax pizza deliveries, but even more severely I have received some of the most death threats of any Member of Congress that led to multiple men being convicted and serving time in prison. And all of that came from the left. Now that President Trump has called me a traitor, which is absolutely untrue and horrific. Mark Levin has been calling me a traitor. And so have other prominent likely paid social medial activists. This puts blood in the water and creates a feeding frenzy. And it could ultimately lead to a harmful or even deadly outcome.”
Trump reiterated his criticism on Truth Social, writing: “Wacky Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown (Remember, Green turns to Brown where there is ROT involved!) is working overtime to portray herself as a victim when, in actuality, she is the cause of all of her own problems. The fact is, nobody cares about this Traitor to our Country!”
What Happens Next
Authorities are now assessing the reported email threats and other alleged incidents connected to Greene and her family. It remains unclear what additional security measures, if any, will be implemented, and whether the confirmation of threats will lead to a reduction in heated rhetoric from any side.
