Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Netflix will not be renewed when it expires this September.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex originally signed a reported $100 million agreement with the streaming platform in 2020. As the contract nears its end, it will conclude without extension, according to The Sun.
A Hollywood insider confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple’s production agreement will not continue, aligning with broader changes in Netflix’s content strategy.
“There’s no animosity from either side,” a source told The Sun. “Things have just run their course.”
PEOPLE reached out to representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as Netflix, for comment.
Despite the non-renewal, future collaborations between the couple and Netflix remain possible. Meghan’s series With Love, Meghan is set to return this fall for a second season.
Netflix has been moving away from large, multi-project partnerships. A similar change was seen in their relationship with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground production company, which evolved into a first-look deal. Though financial terms were never officially disclosed, initial reports in 2018 valued the Obamas’ deal close to $100 million.
New viewership data recently released by Netflix provides insight into the performance of With Love, Meghan, which debuted on March 4. According to the platform’s latest Engagement Report, covering the first half of 2025, the show ranked No. 383 with 5.3 million views.
Meanwhile, Polo — a documentary executive-produced by Harry and Meghan and released on Dec. 10 — drew 500,000 households and ranked No. 3,436.
Their 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan remains Netflix’s most-watched documentary debut to date.
“Netflix were clever in that they got a hell of a lot of viewers for the first documentary series, and knew, realistically, it would prove the zenith of content from the Montecito pair,” a source told The Sun. “They’re not unhappy with how things turned out — they got those initial hits, and produced one of the most talked-about shows of all time,” the source added.
On March 12, just one week after its premiere, With Love, Meghan ranked tenth on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Shows Overview, with 2.6 million views and 12.6 million hours watched. It also reached seventh on Netflix’s UK chart and tenth on the U.S. Top 10 list.
The Duchess serves as both host and executive producer of the lifestyle series, which was filmed in Montecito, California, where she lives with Harry and their children. In season one, she welcomed guests like Mindy Kaling and shared lifestyle, culinary, and entertaining insights.
Meghan also launched her lifestyle brand As Ever alongside the series. The brand has seen multiple sell-out product drops, with additional releases planned. Netflix is a partner in the venture.
The collaboration was established through Netflix’s consumer products division. In March, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos stated, “We’re a passive partner in Meghan’s company, and it’s a big discovery model for us right now.” Several As Ever products were prominently featured in With Love, Meghan.
Season two has already been filmed and is set for release this fall. Director Michael Steed returns, with Chrissy Teigen confirmed as Meghan’s first guest. The show marks the fifth project from the Sussexes’ production partnership with Netflix.
Harry and Meghan originally signed their multiyear deal in September 2020. According to the New York Times, their production company was set to develop a wide range of content, including documentaries, docuseries, scripted series, feature films, and children’s programming, all exclusive to Netflix.
“Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple, have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” the Duke and Duchess said in a statement at the time.
“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” they added.
