A 47-year-old Ohio mother and social media personality has been declared brain dead following a elective cosmetic surgery, a tragedy her family attributes to medical negligence and a lack of urgency during post-operative care.
Rachel Tussey, a mother of three who documented her journey toward a “midlife glow up” for her 25,000 TikTok followers, underwent a tummy tuck procedure on February 25. What was intended to be a transformative milestone has instead left her family navigating a medical nightmare and seeking legal recourse.
A Rapid Decline in Recovery
According to Jeremy Tussey, Rachel’s husband, the surgery initially appeared successful. He reports that the plastic surgeon assured him the procedure “went great” before departing the facility around 5:45 p.m.
However, the situation deteriorated rapidly within the recovery room. Jeremy observed a visible change in his wife’s complexion shortly after a nurse administered pain medication.
“I look down and her face is off color,” Jeremy recalled in a video statement. “I assumed it was from the surgery… but there was no sense of urgency.”
When Rachel became unresponsive, medical staff initiated CPR. Despite these efforts, Jeremy alleges a critical delay in emergency protocols. The plastic surgeon was reportedly recalled to the room to assess the situation before 911 was finally summoned.

Allegations of Oxygen Deprivation
Rachel was transported via ambulance to TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital, where she was placed on life support. Medical evaluations later determined that she had been deprived of oxygen for more than six minutes.
On March 3, Jeremy confirmed that doctors had declared Rachel brain dead. “Somebody dropped the ball and killed my wife,” he stated, citing what he believes to be gross incompetence during the immediate post-operative window.
While a GoFundMe campaign initially indicated that the family had made the decision to remove her from life support, subsequent social media updates suggest Rachel remains in a vegetative state.

Investigation and Legal Steps
The Tussey family has retained legal counsel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the surgery and the subsequent emergency response. As of this report, a formal lawsuit has not been filed, but the family is actively seeking answers regarding the timeline of events and the standard of care provided at the surgical center.
The incident highlights growing concerns regarding the safety of “mommy makeover” procedures—typically a combination of abdominoplasty and other cosmetic enhancements—which carry inherent risks of blood clots, respiratory distress, and anesthesia complications.
