A 61-year-old woman in Italy has admitted to killing her 35-year-old son, cutting his body into pieces, and trying to hide it with help from his wife.
According to Italian news outlets ANSA and L’Unione Sarda, along with the Daily Mail, Lorena Venier confessed to killing her son, Alessandro Venier, after his wife, 30-year-old Mailyn Castro Monsalvo, called police on July 25 to report what they had done.
Police found Alessandro’s dismembered body in the basement of the home he shared with his wife, mother, and infant daughter in Gemona del Friuli, a town in northern Italy.
Lorena, who works as a nurse, told the judge, “I took care of Alessandro’s dismemberment myself. I used a hacksaw, a sheet to catch the blood, and cut him into three pieces. There were no splatters, so the police found everything in order.”
Lorena claimed that she and Mailyn had planned the murder for months, saying it was because Alessandro had physically abused his wife. She alleged that since their daughter’s birth in January, Alessandro had been violent, insulted his wife, and threatened to kill her. Lorena also said Alessandro had punched her after she tried to report the abuse.

Investigators say the two women gave Alessandro lemonade mixed with a tranquilizer, then injected him with insulin to knock him out. They allegedly suffocated him with a pillow and strangled him with shoelaces. Mailyn is accused of moving his body to the garage and covering it with quicklime to hide the smell.
Authorities believe Lorena and Mailyn planned to make it look like Alessandro had moved to Colombia, where he had recently told friends he might go. However, Mailyn soon called the police and confessed.
Lorena has been charged with murder and hiding a body. Mailyn is under investigation for encouraging the killing.
