California Governor Gavin Newsom and Vice President J.D. Vance traded jabs this weekend as tensions flared over the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement, following Vance’s family vacation to Disneyland.

Vance was in Anaheim with his wife, Usha, and their two children when Newsom took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the vice president for enjoying family time while, according to the governor, others were being torn apart by federal deportation operations.

“Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance,” Newsom wrote. “The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t.”

Vance, a staunch defender of the administration’s immigration agenda, brushed off the remark in a terse reply:

“Had a great time, thanks.”

ICE Raids Fuel Protests and Political Firestorm

The exchange came on the heels of controversial ICE raids at two cannabis farms in Southern California, which led to the detention of hundreds of suspected undocumented immigrants and the reported death of a farmworker. The operations sparked protests across the region, including in Anaheim, where demonstrators gathered near Disneyland during Vance’s visit to denounce the administration’s mass deportation campaign.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott, agents discovered 10 migrant minors—eight of them unaccompanied—working at a farm in Camarillo, prompting a broader investigation into possible child labor violations.

National Guard Deployed Amid Growing Backlash

In response to weeks of protests against federal immigration actions across Southern California, the Trump administration recently deployed National Guard troops and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles—a move fiercely opposed by Newsom, who has accused the administration of stoking fear and division.

Political Stakes Rise

Newsom has positioned himself as a leading Democratic voice opposing Trump-era immigration crackdowns, while Vance, a rising figure in Republican politics, has stood firmly behind them.

Their sharp public exchange reflects the broader national divide over immigration enforcement—and underscores how even a family outing to a theme park can ignite political fireworks in today’s polarized climate.
