United States Attorney General Pam Bondi has pledged to identify and prosecute the person who allegedly “attempted to confront” Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Alina Habba.

In two posts on X shared Thursday afternoon, Bondi said the incident took place on Wednesday night and vowed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) will use “every legal tool available” in pursuing the case.

Why It Matters

The episode comes amid a series of high-profile attacks targeting political figures and public officials, including the assassinations of Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The string of violence has intensified bipartisan calls for a de-escalation of political tensions and an end to attacks on public servants.

What To Know

“Last night, an individual attempted to confront one of our U.S. Attorneys — my dear friend [Alina Habba] — destroyed property in her office, and then fled the scene. Thankfully, Alina is ok,” Bondi wrote on X on Thursday.

She went on to say, “Any violence or threats of violence against any federal officer will not be tolerated. Period. This is unfortunately becoming a trend as radicals continue to attack law enforcement agents around the country.”

Bondi did not specify the exact location of the incident. Habba’s main office is in Newark, New Jersey, but authorities have not publicly shared where the confrontation allegedly took place, nor have they released details about a suspect.

Habba was nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey in March, after previously representing him in legal matters in New York. Her appointment has been contentious: she has not been confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and Trump later withdrew her nomination. Because she has served more than 120 days as an interim attorney, she is technically disqualified from holding the position under federal rules, but continues in the role for now — prompting questions about the validity of the cases she has overseen.

What People Are Saying

Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, Alina Habba, on X:
“I will not be intimated by radical lunatics for doing my job.”

Pam Bondi, on X:
“We will find this person, and the individual will be brought to justice. Our federal prosecutors, agents, and law-enforcement partners put their lives on the line every day to protect the American people, and this Department will use every legal tool available to ensure their safety and hold violent offenders fully accountable.”

What’s Next

As of now, the DOJ has not released further information about the suspect or any potential charges, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
