Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson have taken their on-screen chemistry off-screen.

A source close to the production of The Naked Gun tells PEOPLE that the two stars have started a “budding romance in the early stages,” and it’s evident there’s a genuine connection. “It’s sincere,” the source shares. “They’re clearly taken with each other and enjoying each other’s company.”

Anderson, 58, and Neeson, 73, first met while filming the upcoming comedy reboot The Naked Gun, which hits theaters this Friday, Aug. 1. While their representatives did not respond to requests for comment, insiders say the pair have been spending time together beyond promotional appearances.

At the film’s New York City premiere on July 28, the duo posed for photos with their families—Anderson’s sons Brandon, 29, and Dylan, 27, and Neeson’s sons Micheál, 30, and Daniel, 28, joined their parents on the red carpet.

The day after the premiere, Anderson and Neeson playfully staged a romantic moment on Today, pretending to get caught kissing live on-air. During the film’s London premiere on July 22, Anderson also surprised Neeson with a kiss on the cheek in front of cameras.

Signs of a deeper bond have been visible for months. In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Neeson gushed about his co-star: “I’m madly in love with her. She’s incredible to work with—no ego, just talent, humor, and professionalism.”

Anderson returned the praise, calling Neeson “the perfect gentleman” who brings “respect, kindness, and depth” to every interaction. “He brings out the best in you,” she said.

Their affection was also apparent in an Entertainment Weekly cover story earlier this month. “I think I have a friend forever in Liam,” Anderson said. “We definitely share a very sincere and loving connection. He’s a good guy.”

She previously told EW that their friendship grew over shared interests—literature, humor, and late-night dinners with their respective assistants while filming. “Our relationship stayed ‘professionally romantic,’” she said with a laugh.

In The Naked Gun, Neeson steps into the role of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., son of the iconic original character played by Leslie Nielsen. Anderson plays Beth, the film’s leading lady and Drebin’s romantic interest.

The film opens nationwide Friday, Aug. 1.
