Police Following ‘Several Leads’ in Connection with Missing Teen Girl Found Dead in Singer d4vd’s Car

Authorities are continuing their investigation into d4vd after new leads and evidence have come up regarding the death of a teenage girl who was found in the 20-year-old singer’s car.

On Thursday, Sept. 18, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told PEOPLE that detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division served a search warrant at a local address in connection with the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Rivas, 15, was “the juvenile who was reported missing from Lake Elsinore,” the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office previously told NBC News. She was found on Sept. 8 in a Tesla registered to d4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

The LAPD looked into the impounded car after someone reported a foul smell, PEOPLE confirmed.

“Several items of evidence were recovered and will be analyzed by detectives in the coming days,” an LAPD spokesperson said. “Investigators are following up on several leads.”

Hernandez was first reported missing on April 5, 2024, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Authorities have not shared more information about Rivas or if she knew d4vd, who started out as a YouTube creator before becoming a musician.

One of his most well-known songs is a 2022 single called “Romantic Homicide.”

d4vd explained the meaning behind the lyrics in an interview with Genius, saying that “the storytelling aspect” was inspired by “the lyrics that came before” the hook.

“It builds up to the big moment where she died in the back of my mind,” d4vd said. “I didn’t kill her physically, but in the back of my mind, she died.”

He added that listeners often interpret the song differently: some see it as representing their past selves “dying,” while they grow or overcome struggles like addictions.

d4vd was on his Withered World Tour in North America when Hernandez’s body was found. He has not publicly commented, but his representative told NBC Los Angeles that he is “fully cooperating” with authorities.

After Rivas’ body was discovered, her family started a GoFundMe called “Help Lay Celeste Rivas Hernandez to Rest” on Sept. 18.

“As many of you know, Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been identified as the body found last week,” organizers Esmeralda Lozano and Gisel Vera wrote. “She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend. Her family is heartbroken and devastated by this tragic loss. They are seeking help to lay her body to rest. Any funds you are able to donate are greatly appreciated.”

They signed the message as “The Rivas Hernandez family” and shared that her service was scheduled for Oct. 5.

The investigation is still ongoing, the LAPD tells PEOPLE.
