Investigators searching for Today show host Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, say they have made new progress and recovered “several items of evidence,” including gloves.
In a statement issued Thursday, Feb. 12, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said the items were collected as part of the ongoing investigation and that all viable evidence will be submitted for analysis.
Authorities have also asked residents near Nancy’s Catalina Foothills home to share doorbell-camera footage from two time windows: Jan. 11 between 9 p.m. and midnight local time, and Jan. 31 between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., the morning before her reported abduction. Investigators noted that a “suspicious vehicle” had been spotted in the area.
Officials have said they are still operating under the belief that Nancy is alive. After she was reported missing Feb. 1, law enforcement launched a large-scale search, saying they believe she was taken against her will. Investigators also reported a trail of blood on the front steps of her home and confirmed it matched her DNA.
According to authorities, alleged ransom notes connected to Nancy’s disappearance were sent to several media outlets, with an initial deadline set for 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, followed by a second deadline at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9. On Feb. 7, Savannah and her siblings posted an emotional video on Instagram saying, “We will pay.”
A potential break came Tuesday, Feb. 10, when authorities released surveillance photos and video of an “armed individual” on Nancy’s front porch. The images show a person wearing a ski mask, zip-up jacket and gloves and carrying a backpack approaching the home.
One video posted online appears to show the person tampering with a doorbell camera near the front door. In a post sharing the footage, Savannah wrote that she believes someone may recognize the individual and urged the public to help bring her mother home.
Savannah has been in Arizona with her family as they wait for answers about Nancy.
