Rob Reiner and his son, Nick Reiner, were involved in a tense, public argument at a holiday party on Saturday night — just hours before Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed at their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14, according to multiple attendees.

TMZ first reported on Monday that Reiner, 78, and his 32-year-old son got into a “very loud argument” at a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien on Saturday night. Two people who were at the gathering also confirmed that an argument took place.

One attendee described Nick’s behavior as alarming, saying he was “freaking everyone out,” acting erratically, and repeatedly asking guests whether they were famous.

After the dispute, Rob and Michele — who was 68 — reportedly left the party, according to TMZ.

The couple were later found dead in their home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Authorities and first responders were called to the residence around 3:30 p.m. local time to provide medical aid, but Rob and Michele were discovered dead at the scene. The couple was previously reported to have been found by their daughter, Romy.

Nick Reiner was later arrested and charged with murder, and he is now being held without bail.

Rob and Michele met while he was directing When Harry Met Sally… and married in 1989. They had three children together: Jake, Nick, and Romy.

Nick has spoken in the past about addiction and periods of homelessness that began during his teenage years. In a 2016 interview, he said he went in and out of rehab starting around age 15 and later spent extended periods homeless in multiple states as his substance use worsened.

The father-son film Being Charlie (2015), which they worked on together, was partly inspired by Nick’s experiences growing up.

Rob Reiner was known for directing a run of landmark films, including This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand By Me, The Princess Bride (1987), and A Few Good Men (1992), among others. The son of comedian Carl Reiner, he first rose to prominence as an actor on the hit sitcom All in the Family.
