Russell Brand Bashes Katy Perry’s Relationship with Justin Trudeau: ‘I Was Okay with Orlando Bloom but Justin Trudeau — C’mon Man’

Russell Brand took a swipe at Katy Perry’s reported relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau while speaking onstage at a political event this week.

On Thursday, Dec. 18, the English comedian, 50, appeared at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix and referenced Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 53, while addressing the crowd.

“Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her. I love her still, and I’m glad that her mom’s in the room to hear me say this, but look. I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? C’mon, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy! That globalist stooge,” Brand said.

Perry and Brand were married from 2010 to 2012, after which Brand filed for divorce. Perry later spoke about receiving the news shortly before a performance, a moment included in her documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me.

Perry met Bloom, 48, at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016. The two became engaged in 2019, then called off the engagement in June 2025 after nine years together. They share a daughter, Daisy Dove, born in August 2020.

Earlier this year, Brand was charged with five counts related to assault and rape allegations involving four women. The accusations were first reported in September 2023, when five women shared their alleged experiences in a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s current affairs show Dispatches.

One woman alleged she was raped in 1999 in a town in the south of England. Other alleged incidents were reported to have occurred in London in 2001 and between 2004 and 2005. Brand has denied the accusations, saying he “absolutely refutes” the claims.

Perry and Trudeau sparked relationship rumors in July 2025 after they were spotted together on a date in Montreal, Canada. Reports at the time described an “instant connection,” with the pair said to be interested in each other while navigating busy schedules and life changes after Trudeau’s time in office.

The two made their public debut as a couple in October 2025, attending a cabaret show at Crazy Horse Paris to celebrate Perry’s birthday.
