Darrell Sheets, the veteran professional buyer and fan-favorite personality known as “The Gambler” on A&E’s hit series Storage Wars, was found dead early Wednesday morning. He was 67.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department (LHCPD) confirmed that officers discovered Sheets’ body at approximately 2 a.m. local time on April 22, after responding to a report of a deceased individual.

Preliminary reports from the scene indicate that Sheets died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. While the LHCPD Criminal Investigations Unit has assumed control of the scene, authorities are awaiting a final report from the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office to confirm the official cause of death.

“The incident is under active investigation,” the LHCPD stated in an official release. Authorities have notified Sheets’ family and are requesting that anyone with pertinent information contact the department at 928-855-1171.

Sheets rose to international prominence as an original cast member of Storage Wars, a reality series documenting the high-stakes world of California storage locker auctions. Alongside his son, Brandon, Sheets became synonymous with high-risk bidding, earning his nickname through a “gut instinct” approach that occasionally yielded historic returns.

His most notable career achievements included:

  • The discovery of four original Picasso paintings.
  • The acquisition of a collection later identified as the world’s most lucrative comic book hoard.

In a statement released Wednesday, an A&E spokesperson said:

“We are saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell ‘The Gambler’ Sheets. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Sheets’ death follows several years of health challenges. In 2019, he informed fans via social media that he had suffered a mild heart attack, which led to a diagnosis of congestive heart failure and severe lung complications.

Sheets officially retired from the television series in 2023, relocating to Arizona to open an antique shop, Havasu Show Me Your Junk.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death remains ongoing.
