Stray Dogs Followed Her at an Airbnb. Months Later, She Came Back to Save Them 

What started as a road trip for a Taylor Swift concert turned into a life-changing mission for Brooke Morosca — and two abandoned dogs.

While driving to an Airbnb outside New Orleans with her mother last year, Morosca spotted a shape lying in the middle of the road. “Is that a dog?” she asked — and pulled over before waiting for an answer.

What she found was a yellow Labrador Retriever, covered in dirt and clearly neglected. Moments later, a black Lab emerged from the trees and joined the first dog. Without hesitation, both ran up to her.

“We gave them some water from the car,” says Morosca, 25. “That’s when I realized there were two of them — and they weren’t going anywhere.”

And she was right. The dogs followed her and her mom back to their Airbnb — and never left their side for the next four days.

“They slept on our porch every night,” says Morosca, a Disney World performer and trained vet tech. “We bought food and shampoo, asked around the neighborhood, but no one claimed them. There were a lot of broken-down houses, and the dogs were often hiding underneath them.”

The yellow Lab was outgoing and friendly, while the black Lab appeared frail and sick — his belly swollen from likely parasites. Despite a house full of ten people, the dogs only gravitated toward Morosca.

“I recorded a video of them just looking inside the house with these hopeful little faces,” she says. “I started crying. I couldn’t bring them inside, but I knew they just wanted love.”

Unsure what to do, she gave it a few days to see if the dogs might wander home — but they stayed. On the last day, she called Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS), where staff recognized the dogs and informed her they’d come from a home that had been previously investigated. The owners had lost — and regained — custody under a legal agreement: if the dogs were found loose again, they’d be permanently surrendered.

A week later, they were loose again.

Morosca had to return to Florida but asked the shelter to contact her immediately if the dogs became eligible for adoption. Back home, she called the shelter constantly. Eventually, she learned the black Lab had been cleared for adoption — but the yellow Lab had been returned to the original owner.

“I was devastated,” she says. “But I also knew I had to get him. The night I met them, Taylor Swift’s surprise song was ‘The Black Dog.’ It felt like a sign.”

She named him Rhysand, drove ten hours back to Louisiana, adopted him, and drove straight home.

Still, she couldn’t stop thinking about the yellow Lab.

“I grew up with two dogs — I know they bond. I couldn’t stop picturing her, back in the same situation.”

Months passed with no news. Then, one night at 2 a.m., Morosca suddenly felt compelled to check the shelter’s website. The yellow Lab — now named Crumpet — was listed for adoption.

She called her mom right away.

“When I told her, she just said, ‘I knew it.’ She’s been supportive through the whole thing — she knows how much I care about dogs and rescue work. It’s always been my dream to open my own shelter.”

Morosca posted the story on TikTok, asking for help with supplies and travel costs. Support flooded in from across the country — donations, encouragement, and millions of views.

Thanks to the generosity of strangers, she made the trip again — and brought Crumpet home.

“I wasn’t sure if she’d remember me, but on the drive back, she just curled up in my lap and fell asleep,” Morosca says. “Just like she did when I brought her to the shelter the first time.”

She filmed the emotional reunion between the two dogs — now confirmed to be about 3 years old — and says they may even be siblings. A DNA test is on the way.

“They’ve been through so much, but they’re finally safe,” she says. “And they’re together.”

Michelle Brignac, director of JPAWS, remembers the moment Crumpet was adopted: “Everyone was crying. Brooke drove so far, twice, just to give these dogs a better life.”

Now, Rhysand and Crumpet are home — part of Brooke Morosca’s forever family.

“I just hope their story inspires people,” she says. “There are so many animals out there waiting. If this encourages someone to adopt, foster, or even just visit a shelter — that’s everything.”
