A beloved Pennsylvania teen has died after a tragic electric bicycle accident.

William Fenninger, a junior and football player at Warwick High School in Lancaster County, was critically injured when his e-bike collided with a car on Thursday, Aug. 28, according to Lancaster Online, CBS 21 and WGAL 8.

William passed away in the hospital several days later, on Monday, Sept. 1, according to a statement sent to parents by the Warwick County School District, as reported by the outlets.

The other driver, who police said was a minor, was not injured, according to the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police, per Lancaster Online. Police also said the investigation is ongoing but did not confirm whether any charges will be filed.

Friends and teammates have shared heartfelt tributes to William.

“Will was one of the nicest, kindest people a lot of people will meet,” teammate Wes Brunken told CBS 21.

“He’s just one in a million, and he’s the kind of guy who walks into a room and everyone is really happy to see him. He brings positive energy to everything he does,” Wes added.

Community members have created a memorial at the site of the accident. Wes said the memorial has grown each day.

“People came and added things that meant something to them. They brought flowers to show respect and put up candles. I’m really happy with how it turned out,” he told CBS 21.

Wes also shared that the team took a knee to pray for William while he was in the hospital.

“It was a heavy moment. We were all still in shock about the news, but after we prayed, it helped a lot of us,” he said.

He added that he hopes William’s family feels supported during this difficult time.

“I want them to know that thousands of people—from our community, across the state, and even other states—knew Will and want them to know we’re here for them. We’re trying our best to help them through this difficult process,” Wes said.

The Warwick School District sent a notice to parents, saying counseling and support will be available to students.

“Will’s death will likely impact a significant number of staff and students, and we will continue to support students and staff throughout this difficult time and during the school year,” the notice said, according to Lancaster Online and CBS 21.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help William’s family. As of Sept. 4, it had raised $47,645 toward a goal of $55,000.
