Texas shooting causes panic, closure of McAllen airport

A gunman clad in tactical gear opened fire near the U.S. Border Patrol annex facility close to McAllen International Airport in Texas on Monday morning, injuring three people before being shot and killed by law enforcement, Telemundo 40 reported.

According to a statement by the Department of Homeland Security, the victims included two law enforcement officers and a Border Patrol employee. One officer was shot in the knee.

Operations at McAllen Airport have since resumed.


Gunman Ambushed Border Agents

Citing law enforcement sources, Fox News’ Bill Melugin described the incident as a “purposeful ambush,” noting that the suspect opened fire on Border Patrol agents as they were reporting for duty. Officers from both local and federal agencies returned fire, fatally striking the shooter.

The FBI is now leading the investigation. The shooter has been identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda, according to The Mirror.


Airport Locked Down, Now Fully Reopened

The incident prompted a temporary shutdown at McAllen International Airport, located just minutes from the shooting scene. In a Facebook post, the City of McAllen announced:

“All flights at McAllen International Airport are currently delayed. Due to off-airport safety concerns, vehicles and passengers will not be permitted to enter the terminal or parking lot.”

As of Tuesday morning, officials confirmed that full access had been restored:

“Access to the airport terminal and parking areas has been fully restored, and all airport facilities are open to the public.”
