A Texas woman is facing a murder charge after authorities say she stabbed her boyfriend with a screwdriver during a December altercation.
Jayla Brown has been charged in the death of Keylan Foreman, who died on Jan. 19 — weeks after he was initially injured in an incident on Dec. 27 in Houston, according to police and reports from KTRK, KHOU and Click 2 Houston.
Brown told investigators she and Foreman had been in an on-and-off relationship, the outlets reported.
Police say the couple got into an altercation that ended with Foreman suffering severe injuries to his face and brain, according to the reports.
KTRK, citing charging documents, reported that Brown claimed Foreman hit her first. However, investigators who reviewed surveillance footage said they found no evidence supporting that allegation, the outlet reported.
Brown is accused of striking Foreman, knocking him to the ground, and then continuing the assault while holding a long object, KTRK reported.
Foreman’s death was later ruled a homicide, according to KHOU.
An autopsy report cited by KTRK said the injuries that ultimately caused Foreman’s death were consistent with a screwdriver.
It remains unclear whether Brown has entered a plea or hired an attorney. She is being held on a $150,000 bond.
