Trailer Park Boys actor Mike Smith has been charged with s*xual assault in Canada.

According to court documents obtained by CBC News, the 53-year-old actor was charged on Oct. 2 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in connection with an alleged incident that occurred on Dec. 30, 2017.

The report states that the alleged assault took place in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Smith has been ordered not to contact the victim, whose identity has been withheld under a publication ban.

In a statement, Trailer Park Boys Inc. — the company responsible for the show’s production, merchandise, and streaming service — confirmed that Smith has “stepped away” from his role as managing director.

“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” the company said. “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case. At this time, Mike has stepped away from his role at Trailer Park Boys Incorporated and Gary Howsam has assumed managing director responsibilities.”

A representative for Smith did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Smith is best known for portraying Bubbles on Trailer Park Boys, a Canadian mockumentary series that inspired two feature films and multiple TV movies. The show originally premiered in 2001 and ran for seven seasons before concluding in 2007.

In 2013, Smith and co-stars Robb Wells and John Paul Tremblay purchased the rights to the series. It was later revived by Netflix in 2014, which produced five additional seasons.

Season 13 of Trailer Park Boys was announced in January and is expected to premiere in April 2026, according to TMZ. “We remain focused on delivering the long-awaited 13th season for our fans,” the company added in its statement.

In 2016, Smith was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery following an alleged hotel incident in Hollywood, CBC News reported. The case was later dropped after both Smith and the alleged victim issued a joint statement denying the claims, and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office cited “a lack of sufficient evidence.”

Smith is scheduled to appear in court in Halifax on Monday, Nov. 10.
