Hours after learning that actress Sydney Sweeney is registered as a Republican, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to praise her and take another swing at pop star Taylor Swift.
Trump publicly commended Sweeney during a brief exchange with reporters on Sunday, August 3, after being informed of her political affiliation. The actress has drawn attention recently for her polarizing American Eagle campaign, which critics say carries problematic undertones.
On Monday, Trump doubled down in a Truth Social post, contrasting his admiration for Sweeney with his disdain for Swift, who endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race.
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney!” he wrote on August 4.
Trump, who has repeatedly criticized brands and celebrities he considers “woke,” used the post to revisit familiar grievances. He took shots at ad campaigns from companies like Bud Lite and Jaguar before turning to Swift.
“Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift,” he said. “Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
He added:
“The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Trump’s sharp rhetoric toward Swift escalated in September 2024 after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. At the time, Trump posted: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!“
Still, despite Trump’s campaign to turn supporters against her, his granddaughter Arabella reportedly remained a fan, even celebrating her 13th birthday at Swift’s Eras Tour with her mother Ivanka.

Sweeney’s Republican registration was first reported by Buzzfeed News amid the controversy over her American Eagle ad campaign, though she has not publicly commented on her political leanings or voiced support for Trump.
The campaign — titled “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” — plays on the word “genes,” which critics say implied superiority through her blonde hair and blue eyes. It drew comparisons to the infamous 1980 Calvin Klein ad featuring Brooke Shields, which faced backlash for its provocative tone and messaging around inherited traits.
