President Donald Trump ignited fresh controversy Wednesday by sharing an AI-generated image depicting himself in a divine embrace with Jesus Christ. The post, shared via Truth Social, arrives just two days after the president was forced to delete a similar digital rendering following internal Republican pressure and a backlash from religious leaders.

The latest image shows Trump and Jesus with their eyes closed, backed by a celestial halo and the American flag. Trump captioned the post: “The Radical Left Lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice!!!”

The graphic originated from an X account titled “Irish for Trump,” managed by Dan Kelly, a former 2024 Republican congressional candidate from Massachusetts. Kelly’s original caption suggested that God was “playing his Trump card” against what he described as “satanic” forces.

This release follows a volatile 72-hour period regarding the president’s digital footprint. On Monday, Trump removed a widely criticized AI image that portrayed him as a messianic figure flanked by angelic soldiers and fighter jets.

While prominent Christians labeled the imagery sacrilegious, Trump offered a different interpretation to reporters on April 13. “I thought it was me as a doctor, and had to do with Red Cross,” Trump claimed, dismissing the backlash as a fabrication of the “fake news.”

However, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), a staunch evangelical, confirmed Tuesday that he intervened. Johnson stated he asked the president to remove the photo because it was not being received as intended. “He agreed, and he pulled it down,” Johnson said, praising Trump for showing “great respect” to the faith community.

The surge in religious AI imagery comes at a delicate moment for the administration’s relationship with global and domestic faith groups. Trump is currently engaged in an open feud with Pope Leo XIV regarding the escalating conflict with Iran.

The president further alienated segments of his base on Easter Sunday. In a profanity-laden post, Trump threatened to “annihilate” Iranian civilization and implored the nation to “open the F—in’ Strait.” This rhetoric, combined with Trump’s recent comments at a White House Easter lunch—where he noted that supporters now call him “king”—has sparked concern among traditional allies.

Despite his Presbyterian roots and irregular church attendance, Trump continues to lean heavily on Christian symbolism to maintain his grip on the evangelical electorate, a demographic that remains central to his political survival.
