Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has ignited a political firestorm after accusing former President Barack Obama of orchestrating a “treasonous conspiracy” against Donald Trump—and suggesting he could face criminal charges.
Appearing on Fox & Friends Saturday morning, Gabbard discussed a newly declassified report released by her office the previous day. The report alleges that officials in the Obama administration “fabricated and politicized intelligence” to undermine Trump during and after the 2016 election.
Gabbard Alleges Evidence Was Manipulated
According to Gabbard, the declassified documents indicate that during the 2016 presidential election, U.S. intelligence agencies privately assessed that Russia lacked both the capability and intent to influence the election’s outcome. She claims, however, that the Obama administration publicly pushed a different narrative for political purposes.
“One day later,” Gabbard said, “President Obama called a high-level National Security Council meeting on a so-called ‘sensitive topic.’ These documents show that what followed was a directive from Obama to manufacture intelligence outlining how—not if—Russia interfered in the election Trump won.”
Gabbard alleges that this intelligence was not only exaggerated but deliberately distorted to justify investigations into Trump’s alleged connections with Russia, calling it the foundation for a “years-long coup attempt.”
Criminal Accountability?
When asked whether Obama could face criminal prosecution, Gabbard responded, “The seriousness of these actions demands accountability.” She said the documents had been referred to the Department of Justice and emphasized that no official should be immune from investigation, regardless of their status or political affiliation.
“The American people deserve the truth,” Gabbard said. “When they cast their votes, they need to trust that those in power will honor the will of the people—whether Democrat or Republican. That trust is what’s at stake.”
A Call for DOJ Action
Gabbard concluded by stating that her office is formally referring the matter to the DOJ for review and possible action. “No matter how high up they are—president, intelligence official, or cabinet member—those involved in this conspiracy must be held accountable,” she said.
The explosive allegations have already triggered intense reactions from across the political spectrum, with some calling for immediate investigations and others accusing Gabbard of political theater. As of now, neither Obama nor his representatives have issued a public response.
